"How long do you have to get hit in the head before you start asking who's hitting you in the head?"

M:A:III

Today is the 3rd anniversary of “Mission Accomplished.”

Here’s George Bush during a January 31, 2003 press conference with Tony Blair:
Q One question for you both. Do you believe that there is a link between Saddam Hussein, a direct link, and the men who attacked on September the 11th?

THE PRESIDENT: I can't make that claim.

And here’s George Bush during his May 1, 2003 speech aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln:
The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September the 11, 2001 -- and still goes on.

[. . .]

The liberation of Iraq is a crucial advance in the campaign against terror. We've removed an ally of al Qaeda, and cut off a source of terrorist funding.

[. . .]

We have not forgotten the victims of September the 11th -- the last phone calls, the cold murder of children, the searches in the rubble. With those attacks, the terrorists and their supporters declared war on the United States. And war is what they got.

In all fairness, though, Bush clearly stated he couldn’t make the claim, but he never said he couldn’t imply it…

That's cause it's sort of indirect.

Hussein could do stuff like support the terrorist training camps, hide terrorists, support terrorist's families, encourage jihad stuff, but not directly tell people to commit specific acts.

His use of poison gas against his own people, his hatred of the U.S., and his considerable support of our enemies is pretty well documented.

Marie,

Sort of indirect? There is NO connection. NONE. Even the 9-11 commission has stated that there is no connection. You want to start a war with SORT OF? There was not one Iraqi hijacker involved in 9-11. The President distorted things intentionally. You were tricked and it’s not OK.

Hussein could do stuff like support the terrorist training camps,...

Where? Can you give me one supported example?

hide terrorists,...

Who? When?

support terrorist's families,...

Who and how much support? By the way can you think of any ex-government or US companies that do business with the Bin Laden family?

encourage jihad stuff,...

Tell me what “jihad stuff?” Show me facts in writing. We went to war because of jihad stuff? Do everyone a favor and never say that again. Not only do you make America look stupid but that simple thinking only encourages the administration to keep on lying to us. Please don’t let them think we are all stupid enough to except “jihad stuff” as a reason to go to war.

but not directly tell people to commit specific acts...

What acts?

His use of poison gas against his own people,...

Lots of dictators kill their own people. Should we go to war with those countries too? Who gave him the poison gas in the first place? We didn’t stop him when he used gas on another country. Why didn’t you become outraged and demand war when Bush the 1st encouraged the Kurds to rise up and the Iraqi army gassed them.

his hatred of the U.S., and his considerable support of our enemies is pretty well documented....

I’ll give you that he hates the US but so does most of the world. Lots of countries support our enemies should we attack them?

Not one of the things you state was used as a legitimate international pretext for invading Iraq. Want to know why? They are BULLSHIT reasons. If they weren’t bullshit then most of the world would have stood with us just like they did during our conflict with Afghanistan and the Taliban. You remember, the people that supported the 9-11 terrorists?

This brings us back to the point; the President implied that Iraq was part of the 9-11 terror attack. That’s a lie; he is bullshitting us. Why did he have to lie? He wanted to start a war for reasons he couldn’t share with us. If he had real reasons for attacking he could have told everyone and most of the world would have stood with us against Iraq. Remember, no Iraqi has ever, EVER attacked an American on US soil. If they had there would be no debate.

I’d like to see the documentation proving Saddam’s “considerable support of our enemies,” Marie. And so, I’ll bet, would GW—he sure could use it!

Honestly though, if you’re interested, a good overview of US-Iraq relations is available here:
